Students are required to ensure their own maintenance and housing. It is advisable, if possible, to start looking for housing in June or July. The Royal Conservatoire currently manages student houses for which students can register after enrollment, such as the student house on the Grote Markt in the town centre. Since February 2011, the DUWO House of Music, a house with 43 well sound-insulated living quarters and studios for students from The Netherlands and abroad, is also occupied.

In total there are approximately 100 appartments for which there is a long waiting list. For this reason, student housing via the conservatoire for new students is only an option for the longer term.

Students who are looking for a room in The Hague, can contact the student housing manager of the DUWO Foundation. Students have to register with DUWO personally. The registration fee is €15,-.

Other housing corporations which manage student and youth housing in The Hague are Staedion (www.staedion.nl) and Vestia (www.vestia.nl).

Another possibility is to take up a temporary residence via Ad Hoc (www.adhocbeheer.nl), also known as ‘anti-kraak’ (anti-squat) housing. These are usually empty buildings which are waiting for demolition.

Please note. As of 1 January 2011, the so-called Europaregeling came into force. It means that as of this date, all the housing corporations in the Netherlands have to determine what the income is of their new tenants. As a consequence, also students have to submit a number of financial documents to the housing corporations, before they can rent an apartment. More details are available from the housing corporations concerned.
