CourseOur Dance Department has five studios permanently available, as well as a fully equipped theatre hall. You will receive lessons in the following dance forms: classical ballet, pointes, creative and modern dance, caractère, repertoire, pas de deux, and coaching. There is also strength training (boys), dance history, music theory and (facultative) instrument playing.
The Dance Department consciously sets high standards. In order to complete the course successfully you will be examined each year to make sure you are up to the required standards. The teachers are supported in this by an extensive medical staff.
The Dance Department works closely with the Nederlands Dans Theater. You can for instance receive lessons from guest teachers from this company, or may even be asked to participate in one of its productions! There are also exchange programmes for teachers and students with other international courses. There is a reason why our Dance Department is one of the ballet schools where winners of the renowned Prix de Lausanne, the international ballet competition in Switzerland, can study for free for a whole year.
Most pupils start in group 7 of primary education, and after obtaining a secondary school diploma (vmbo, havo or vwo) one to a maximum of three practical years in higher vocational education (hbo) follow. Altogether you will have had around nine to ten years training with the Dance Department. Then you will finally graduate, and receive your Bachelor diploma in dance. By this time most students are already contracted to international dance companies.
