The Vocal department enjoys global renown, training top-flight singers and exciting artists who on the basis of a thorough technical and musical training, give convincing performances on a variety of professional stages. Graduates appear in opera houses in The Netherlands and abroad, perform with chamber music ensembles and in modern musical theatre, teach and sing with professional choirs and ensembles or as soloists in oratorios and cantatas.

The department encourages its students to develop their skills in every aspect of the discipline. They follow a varied curriculum and take part in projects in the conservatoire and elsewhere. The course has a wide network of contacts in the profession so that during the course the students already have the opportunity to perform with chamber music ensembles, orchestras and choirs in the Royal Conservatoire, and in productions of the Residentie Orkest, the Netherlands Radio Choir, the Dutch National Opera Academy, the Netherlands Bach Society, Cappella Amsterdam, Vocaallab (the Nederlands Vocal Laboratory) and at the annual Young Composers Meeting in Apeldoorn.
