Are you one of those ambitious people looking for a study that matches their talents and vision? Do you find it strange to study either media art, music, theatre, film or visual art? Do you want to choose freely for the medium that suits your project the best? Are you interested in both art and science? Do you want to develop art works in a medium that you'll have to invent first? Are you an inventor, creative and curious? In that case the ArtScience Interfaculty will suit you!

The ArtScience Interfaculty is a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), the Royal Conservatoire (KC) and Leiden University. The Interfaculty offers a unique, practice-based bachelor and master programme that focuses on the development of innovative forms of art. The programme is based on traditions of interdisciplinary art and multimedia and the accompanying interest in the mutual interaction of the senses (synesthesia). In the open climate at the Interfaculty, the continuity between media art, music, theatre, film and visual art is considered to be self-evident. During the study, students learn to cooperate in ways in which everyone’s qualities show to full advantage.

On top of this interdisciplinary foundation, in the projects and labs the intersection between art and recent developments in science and technology is explored. Artistic responses to recent developments are formulated by experimenting with new contexts and forms in which art can play a role. In research projects students think of new ways to approach the audience, investigate the connections between art and society in order to create art in unexpected places.

From day one students participate in a wide variety of artistic research activities in order to learn how to make innovative art works. In the past two years the Interfaculty set up seven collective labs that investigate important subjects: RecPlay, StageLab, the Spatial Interaction Lab, the Audiovisual Composition Lab, the Tactile Research Lab, cod3l4b and the AR interactions lab. On top of this, there are intensive research projects twice a year, around themes that are based on recent developments in art, science and society. During your study you will think about developments around us, inside and outside the world of art. Do you see new places where art should be? How do you experience the world around you and what are your visions on enhancing the quality of life? What would future forms of art look like?

You want to think with your hands and build with your brain? Come and study at the ArtScience Interfaculty!
