Ásdís Valdimarsdottir

Ásdís Valdimarsdottir comes from Reykjavik, Iceland. She holds a Masters degree from the Juilliard School in New York and The Musikhochschule in Detmold, Germany, where her main teachers were Paul Doktor and Nobuko Imai. She has enjoyed a varied career as a chamber musician having been a founding member of the Miami String Quartet, principal viola of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen for 5 years and a frequent guest of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Ensemble Modern. 

She joined the Chilingirian String Quartet in 1995 and was their violist until 2003. She has made solo appearances with the Iceland Symphony, The London Mozart Players, Het Brabants Orkest, The Russian National Orchestra and given many recitals. Since 2004 she has been based in Amsterdam; was a member of The Utrecht String Quartet for two years, and is now a member of the The Quimias Trio and the Erard Ensemble as well as the London based Endymion Chamber Ensemble.
Ásdís has been invited to many prestigious festivals around the world where she has performed and taught, such as the Marlboro Music Festival in the USA, Festival Inverno Campos de Jordao in Brazil, The Kuhmo Festival in Finland and the IMS at Prussia Cove in England. She is the viola professor at the International Masterclass in Apeldoorn since 2005 and has previously been on the faculty of The Trinity College of Music and the Royal College of Music in London and The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She is on the faculty for viola and chamber music at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague since 2012.
