Born 1962 in Sydney, Kate Clark gained her Bachelor of Music - on modern and baroque flutes – from the University of Sydney in 1985. In the same year she was a finalist in the Australian National Flute Competition and guest principal flute with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

From 1986-1990 she studied baroque and classical fliutes with Barthold Kuijken at the Royal Conservatorium in Den Haag gaining her Soloist's Diploma "cum laude”. She undertook a final period of study and research at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland under the guidance of the American flautist and musicologist Anne Smith. In 1993 she won the first Prize in the Brugge International Early Music Competition.

Since 1988 Kate Clark has performed and recorded throughout Europe as a soloist, with chamber ensembles (Musica Ad Rhenum, Ensemble of the Classic Era, Amphion Ensemble, Apollo Ensemble, Cantus Cölln), and orchestras (Das Freiburger Barock Orchester, Concerto Köln, Die Deutsche Handel Solisten, Die Reinische Kantorei, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Le Concert Spirituel, The Amsterdanm Baroque Orchestra and The Orchestra of the 18th Century).. She makes regular appearences in Australia as soloist with The Australian Brandeburg Orchestra, The Australian Chamber Orchestra, or as artist in residence at the Universities of Sydney Western Australia.

One of the world’s leading performers on the renaissance flute, she is co-founder and artistic director off the Attaignant Consort, whose acclaimed debut cd “Madame d’amours” is shortly to be followed by two further recordings of solo and ensemble flute music from the 16th-17th centuries (release 2011 Ramee label).

Kate Clark gives lectures and courses all over Europe, in Israel, the United States and Australia. She teaches historical flutes at the Royal Conservatorium in Den Haag (since 1996). Her personal interest in music extends to many different periods and styles, and her non-musical interests include languages, poetry, morality and justice, She lives in Amsterdam with her partner and their two sons.
