Rick Huls

Rick Huls studied at the conservatories of Arnhem and Amsterdam with Reinier Hogerheijde and George Pieterson. During his studies he won several awards, including the second prize at the International Clarinet Competition in Ghent (B) and first prize at the Chamber Music Competition in Colmar (F). He also attended master classes with Karl Leister, Hans-Rudolph and Hans Stalder Deinzer.

Since 2004 he has been solo clarinetist of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Rick also plays in other orchestras and ensembles, such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Asko|Schönberg Ensemble. As a soloist he has performed with Holland Symfonia (Copland) and Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra (von Weber).

Rick is active in chamber music with the Uriëlensemble, which he co-founded 10 years ago and where he performs compositions for strings, clarinet and piano in all possible combinations.

His recording of Rudi Martinus van Dijk's "Lament for a dying bird" for clarinet solo, appeared on the label Emergo.
