The Royal Conservatoire is a partner in the Mimic project in collaboration with Haaglanden Medical Centre (HMC). Mimic stands for Meaningful Music in Healthcare.
Small teams of musicians spend one week on a ward at HMC to create musical moments with patients in various medical situations. Research by the University Medical Centre Groningen has shown that critically ill patients who interact with active music practice recover differently and require significantly less pain relief. Nursing staff also participate in the activities and experience a deeper layer in their daily work. Coping with the profound experiences they face in their work is enhanced by interacting with musicians.
Master's students taking the Socially Engaged Artistic Practice elective internship with Mimic projects at HMC. With special training, Mimic prepares students for this special and highly meaningful music practice.
Socially Engaged Artistic Practice is an elective course available to all Master's students at the Royal Conservatoire.
