Alexei Ogrintchouk, conductor

The young string players in the School for Young Talent are introduced early on to the practice of ensemble playing. The string class is therefore a key element of the curriculum of The Hague violin school. Since it was founded in 1985, the class, the Atheneum Chamber Orchestra (AKO), has been the Young KC’s calling card.
Although the AKO is primarily a string orchestra, with a heavy focus on specific repertoire for string instruments, the orchestra is increasingly moving into flexible ensembles: small groups with a harpsichord for baroque music (Young Baroque), a large ensemble supplemented by wind instruments for symphonic repertoire, and a large string ensemble for the romantic string repertoire. The wind instruments in the orchestra perform together in the Atheneum Blazers Consort (ABC).
The Atheneum Chamber Orchestra gives a number of performances every year, including one at the opening of the Young KC Summer Festival (9 July). A collection is held after the concerts in aid of the School for Young Talent’s Cultural Fund.
