Classical Encounters - Practicum Musicae, Joe Puglia en Eva Stegeman

On Saturday 10 October, Classical Encounters will be descending on several neighbourhoods in Leiden for a festival of classical music by top musicians and up-and-coming talent. With a corona-proof ‘living room recital’ in the Maria Middelareskerk in the Stevenshof and two concerts in the Lokhorstkerk in the city-centre district of Pieterswijk, the festival is bringing chamber music back to a live audience again. The event features many familiar names from the Royal Conservatoire.

In the afternoon you will be able to hear students from the Practicum Musicae programme, who are combining their studies at the Royal Conservatoire with an academic study at Leiden University. Emma Byrne will perform the Allegro moderato from Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata and Janusz Meylahn (tenor) and Aafko Boonstra (piano) will play Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte. Also appearing are Joe Puglia, a violin teacher in the Classical Music department, and alumna Eva Stegeman, who also teaches at the Royal Conservatoire, with the Allegro non tanto from Dvořák’s String Quintet No. 3.
