Classical, jazz ... you can go either way with the double bass!

On Sunday 29 March from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m young children between 4 and 14 years old can hear other children and students perform, meet teachers or get to know the instrument themselves. Anyone interested in double bass - or an inspiring musical morning - is welcome. Be amazed by the talented young double bass players from 'Jong KC'.

You can play many styles on this versatile instrument, such as classical, jazz and pop. In addition, there are (still) few bassists, which means that there are many opportunities to play with others in orchestras, big bands, bands, but also solo. With a small version of the double bass you can start from the age of four, so come and get to know this wonderful instrument.

Presentations and try-out lessons are given by teachers from the Royal Conservatory and by double bass teacher Caroline Emery (Royal College of Music). A special opportunity for young double bass players (up to the age of 18) and for double bass teachers to exchange experiences and explore educational opportunities. Let's Go Low!

  • 10.00 - 12.00 - introduction into the double bass for visitors and interested parties; performances (classical and jazz) by pupils and students of the Royal Conservatory (PI, Young KC, Bachelor students); opportunity to try out instruments.
  • 12.00 - 14.00 - public masterclass by double bass pedagogue Caroline Emery (Royal College of Music, Yehudi Menuhin Academy), who will work with young students from the PI (4 to 6 years) and Jong KC departments.
  • 14.00 - 16.00 - clinic on double bass didactics by Caroline Emery, especially for double bass teachers. A good opportunity for exchange of know-how and experience, used methods and teaching materials. More info and registration through this webpage.

Feel free to also join us on Saturday 4 April during the Open Day of PI (music for toddlers) and BASIS (music for young wind players).

In addition to high-level music and dance training, the Royal Conservatory in The Hague also offers opportunities for young children to get strong guidance early on. For example, the conservatory has a School for Young Talent, where talented boys and girls in the last classes of primary school (and then high school) can combine their studies with music or dance education at a high level.
