Go Low - Double bass event for kids

You’re never too young to start playing the double bass, the biggest but perhaps also the coolest of musical instruments. Come and discover this for yourself at ‘Go Low’, an event organised by the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.

On Sunday 31 March from 10.30 – 12.30, children between the ages of 8 and 14 are invited to come along and listen to students and other children playing, ask questions, meet teachers and try out the instrument for yourself. Anyone interested in playing the double bass – or simply enjoying a morning of inspiring music – is welcome. You will have the chance to experience the amazing talent of Jala (9), who plays (and sings) like an angel.

This versatile instrument features in a variety of musical genres, from classical to jazz and pop. The double bass is also a smart choice. Double bassists are in short supply, so there is huge demand for these musicians to play in orchestras, big bands and pop groups, but also as a soloist. With a mini-double bass, you can already start playing from around the age of eight.

In addition to top-flight training in music and dance, the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague offers intensive preparatory courses for children from a young age. In the School for Young Talent, for example, where talented boys and girls from Group 7 of primary school onwards can follow regular classes as they learn to dance or play an instrument to a very high standard.
