Jubilate Deo

Jubilate!

Students of the Royal Conservatoire present the result of a project in which they have immersed themselves in the vocal and instrumental repertoire of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. German composers such as Heinrich Schütz and Hans Leo Hassler were sent to Venice by their employers to learn the new style from masters such as Gabrieli and Monteverdi, both associated with the Basilica of San Marco. The result was an enchantingly beautiful Italian-German hybrid style: a bit of Venice in Lutheran Germany.

The students are under the direction of Wouter Verschuren.
