La fedeltà premiata
Haydn's operas are notoriously little performed in the Netherlands. And how unfair that is, the Dutch National Opera Academy and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century show in one of Haydn's masterpieces. The Viennese grandmaster and contemporary of Mozart and Beethoven is famous for his symphonies, but also wrote many beautiful operas, especially made for the brand new theatre in the Eszterháza palace. La fedeltà premiata, composed in 1780, is one of his best musical theatre works. The plot is both comic and serious and this makes for a very colourful and musically varied score conducted by Benjamin Wenzelberg.
Haydn is absolutely core repertoire for the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, which specialises in playing period instruments from the time the work was written. The young singers of the Dutch National Opera Academy are the stars of the future. Together with the orchestra and the magnificent new staging, they will bring an evening to remember.
The Dutch National Opera Academy is a two-year master's programme for highly talented young opera singers, focusing on the integration of singing and acting. It is a partnership of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
