Mahler 5 performed by the orchestra of the Royal Conservatoire
The Royal Conservatoire’s symphony orchestra conducted by Adam Hickox play Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. The work was composed during the summer months of 1901 and 1902, shortly after Mahler had suffering a near-fatal haemorrhage in 1901. Soon afterwards he met and fell head over heels in love with his future wife, Alma – the Adagietto from the symphony was his declaration of his love for her.
