Creative and Impactful Teaching Strategies in Music

From November 25th – December 1st Professor Gary McPherson will be guest lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire. Besides working with students and staff, he will give a public lecture for a broad audience on creative and impactful teaching strategies in music education. In his presentation he will show how teachers can better meet the needs of all music learners, varying from school related music education to instrumental and vocal teaching. He will also highlight why music education is important by drawing parallels between the development of language literacy and musical literacy, how creative and social skills are developed through music and by explaining what makes music and music education unique. The presentation will cater for all who are interested in teaching music.

Ormond Professor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the University of Melbourne (Australia). He has published over 200 articles and book chapters and (co)edited some of the most prominent publications in music education like The Oxford Handbook of Music Education (2012, 2108), the Child as Musician: A Handbook of Musical Development (2006, 2016) and Musical Prodigies: Interpretations from Psychology, Education, Musicology and Ethnomusicology (2016).
