Sweelinck Festival

Amsterdam will resound with the music of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck during the Sweelinck Festival from 16 to 24 October. But organisations, companies and individuals will also be marking the 400th anniversary of the composer’s death elsewhere.

The festival will celebrate Sweelinck’s music in a variety of ways: with performances of the original works, with examples of how his work has inspired the music of today and with opportunities for visitors to take part in events themselves. These three themes run like a red line through the festival.

Internationally renowned musicians and ensembles including Bob van Asperen, Catalina Vicens, Pieter Dirksen and Cappella Amsterdam will perform vocal music and piano pieces by Sweelinck during the festival. In association with Organisatie Oude Muziek, there will be concerts by the ensembles Doulce Mémoire from Tours and Gesualdo Consort from Amsterdam. That Sweelinck still exerts influence so long after his death will be illustrated during the festival with performances by contemporary musicians who have been inspired by his work.

All external public is required to show proof of a negative test result or to show proof of vaccination via the QR code of the coronacheck app. For more information, click here.
