Marjolein Stots

Marjolein Stots (MM’10) is a professional singer, co-founder and general manager of ensemble ‘Wishful Singing’, a group of five classically trained female singers known for their innovative interdisciplinary performances and projects, often within the social domain.

After completing her bachelor Voice at the Royal Conservatoire, where she studied with Gerda van Zelm, Marjolein continued in the master specialisation ‘New Audiences & Innovative Practices’. About her studies, Marjolein says: "During my master's program, I was able to further develop myself as a musical bridge builder. The experiences I gained during the lessons in The Hague and my project in South Africa were incredibly valuable."

Wishful Singing performs with a wide variety of musical styles with great passion and expression, from compositions of the renaissance and baroque to folk music and close harmony. They also love to sing contemporary repertoire by composers such as Kate Moore, Joey Roukens and Steven Kamperman.

Since the Covid-19 measures went into effect in 2020, Wishful Singing has organised various online activities to maintain their connection with their audience. In 2020, they reached more than 6000 participants with two online courses teaching Gregorian chant. In 2021, they launched Zing je Sterk (‘Sing for health’), a programme in which people with long covid self-manage their recovery through singing and breathing exercises. Since then, the course has reached over thousands of people. It now includes patients dealing with cancer and people with chronic or other long-term illnesses.
