Visit to the Dutch Music Institute

31 January 2020

A group of Bachelor and Master students from the Koninklijk Conservatorium visited the Nederlands Muziek Instituut (NMI), now housed in the Gemeentearchief Den Haag at the Stadhuis on 7 October and 11 November, 2019. The tour led by Kathryn Cok, Head of Master Research and Paula Quint, a librarian at NMI, featured a visit to the basement of the Stadhuis where the city archives and all the materials of NMI including the non-circulating books and music scores and rare, antique original manuscripts and publications are stored. The students were able to view about a dozen works, first prints, and original publications from the 15-19th centuries, including work by Mozart when he was 10 years old of Gallimathias Musicum, K32, composed and premiered in The Hague in 1766, sketches by Beethoven, and some of the very first publications by Corelli Op.5 and Marin Marais, to name a few.
