All projects

February 9th 2018

The Dance Department will perform Evening Songs/Jiří Kylián and Lieder ohne Worte/Hans van Manen.

On February 6th, dance students Lana Tramonte, Anna van Gorp, Laura Dissel, Fabienne Deesker, Elias Boersma, Stef Leenen, MatteMarandini, Daniël Hoek, Yuka Eda and Ryunosuke Ujihara together with staff Jan Linkens, Catharina Boon and Katarina Wester made their way to Tokyo.

Because the Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo in 2020, the city has taken a positive attitude toward international exchange. In order to continue the momentum for cultural activities, a new program called the 'Orchard Ballet Forum' has been creates , inviting ‘prestigious ballet schools from around the world’. The Dance Department of the Royal Conservatoire has been invited to perform at Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Tokyo February 7-13th 2018. The Bunkamura have produced performances with dancers from the Opera National de Paris and  hosted performances in Japan for NYCB, Teatro La Fenice, Opera de Lyon, also put emphasis on a program that introduces talented artists of the next generation in order to provide  rich performing arts to Japanese audiences.

There will be two performances at Bunkamara Orchard Hall (2150 seats). With these, the Dance department answers clear requests of the initiator to perform works of the 'Dutch School'- very highly regardedr in Japan and the core of our education. The students will be taught by teachers and directors from other involved institutes. This willl create a chance to experience different teaching methods and opinions on the (neo))classical dance vocabulary. The Orchard Ballet Forum presents excellent networking opportunities. Many international colleagues will discuss current topics regarding dance education versus the present dance landscape. They will be able to exchange experiences and develop collaborations with existing Japanese contacts. Of course, this is also a great opportunity to promote our department.
