First impressions of Amare - Part 3

3 February 2022

On Monday the 17th of January Amare opened her doors to the students, teachers and staff of the Royal Conservatoire. What do they think of their new building? We met them in the walkways, and spoke to them about their first impressions.

Diederike and Sander, Planning

Diederieke en Sander in Amare

Sander: ‘Right now we sit in the front office, to welcome people. Behind is the office. That is an enormous ballroom. We share the office with the people from the administration. I definitely find it an improvement.’
Diederike: ‘The building has a lot of potential. It is not completely finished yet, but that will come and we don’t blame them.’

Amadee in Amare

Amadee, Bachelor 1 Art of Sound
‘I have been here since September already because Sonology and Art of Sound moved in at the beginning of the year. So, this is not really my first impression, but I still like it. After a while, it got a little bit lonely, but now it is really nice that everybody is here. The best thing about this building is the 6th floor, because that is where the studios are and where all the amazing magic happens.’

ArtScience student
Amare has a really chic vibe. It’s different now because it is filled with students, but before I really didn’t feel like I was at a school. It felt more like I was attending a concert. But now with all the students around, it feels more like an actual school. I think I would be able to feel at home eventually.’

Mike, Zjuul en Emma in Amare

Mike, Emma and Zjuul, School For Joung Talent
Mike: 'It is very different than the old building, I need some time to adjust.’
Zjuul: 'The classrooms have a motivating vibe because they are still very empty and there is a lot of light which helps you to feel good.’
Emma: 'The gender-neutral toilets are a big improvement because in the last building there was only 1.’
Mike: ‘I am not yet used to the building looking so professional. The old KC was very cozy and small, but now you barely meet people you know.’
Zjuul: ‘I think we first need to settle a bit, when we find our chill spot we can start to build from that.’

Alice, Master 1 Cello
‘The new building is amazing, it really inspires me to practice. There is a lot of open space, the practice rooms are very light and tidy. The sound is also good. I really feel comfortable practicing in there. I really like it.’

Shoya, Artist Certificate Composition
‘It is easy to get lost. For my first lesson I just got on time because I first walked the wrong way. Everything is different, so I am still a little bit confused.’
