Leonard Seeleman appointed as organist in Oegstgeest

Leonard Seeleman (1997) has been appointed as organist of the Protestant Congregation in Oegstgeest as of October. Leonard is working on finishing his bachelor Organ, and studies piano and choral conducting, along with Public Administration in Leiden. The young musician has already worked as an organist in the municipalities of Wilnis, Nieuwer ter Aa and Kockengen. From 2017 till 2019, he was acting organist in the Westerkerk in Amsterdam, where he now is second organist.

His appointment is the result of a thorough selection procedure, after which the commission was unanimous in their support of this young and enthusiastic organist. Leonard’s appointment was based on his broad interests and his experience with the “Nieuwe Liedboek” (songbook) and with alternative liturgical forms. Moreover, the commission pointed out his solid piano playing, and his sensitivity for the contents of the liturgy.

Leonard will play an extraordinary organ in the Groene of Willibrordskerk, one of the two church buildings of the Protestant Congregation in Oegstgeest. This organ has been constructed with seventeenth-century pipes from the choir organ in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam.

We congratulate Leonard with this appointment and wish him much success.
