Prof. William Caplin 'Music Theorist in Residence'

From 7 - 9 May 2018, the American music theorist Prof. dr. William Caplin will be our guest teacher at the Royal Conservatoire as 'Music Theorist in Residence'.

For three days, he will teach students in Theory of Music. Teachers and students from other departments are welcome to attend the public morning workshops.

Prof. Caplin (1948) is currently working at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal and has published beside a large number of articles a.o. his authoritative standard work Classical Form, A Theory of Formal Functions for the Music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. His approach to music theory is analytically oriented, with the emphasis on musical form in all its facets.

NB: all sessions take place in the Nieuwe Badkapel, Nieuwe Parklaan 90, 2587 BV The Hague (Scheveningen). Entrance at the back door of the building!

Tuesday 8th of May

10.30 - 12.45 Cadence in the Mid to Late Nineteenth Century (presentation + workshop)

Wednesday 9th of May

10.30 - 12.45 Cadence in the Fugues of Bach's Well-tempered Clavier (presentation + workshop)

The language of instruction will be English. Free access. The Badkapel is easy to reach with tram 9 (calls before the entrance), approx. 15 minutes from The Hague Central Station. The cycling time from the Conservatory is approx. 20 minutes.
