The entrance exam consists of a practical and a theoretical part. You will have to be successful in both parts in order to secure a place.

Practical section entrance exam

You prepare a programme of ca. 20 minutes of which about 15 minutes will be played during the exam. The works on the programme should be chosen from several style periods and serve the aim to evaluate your musicality, technical ability, level of stylistic knowledge and affinity with the performed repertoire.

The following programme or similar pieces should be prepared for the audition:

  • A recercada from the tratado de glosas by Diego Ortiz.
  • An active continuo part from a cantata by J,S. Bach.
  • A solo for violone from the baroque period.

Theoretical section entrance exam

The theory section consists of:

  • a written hearing test
  • a written test in general music theory
  • an individual practical solfège test
