The Dutch conductor & tuba player Arne Visser (1981) is a versatile musician with a wide interest. As a conductor he is specialized in contemporary and symphonic repertoire. On his tuba and euphonium he has a full concertagenda with symphony orchestras, musical theater groups and chamber music ensembles. Arne is a teacher at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and the associated School for Young Talent.
From season 2020-2021 onwards he works as a conductor at ‘orkest de Ereprijs’, a renowned ensemble for contemporary music. At the Orgelpark Amsterdam he performed in april 2022 pieces by composer Jan van de Putte. He conducted the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble during their Young Composers Contest and Newyearsconcert in 2019 and 2020, and conducted the european premiere of ‘Become Ocean’ by composer John Luther Adams with the Codarts Symphony Orchestra in 2016. Arne is regularly asked as a guest-teacher and conductor at several dutch conservatoires.
He works as a tuba- & euphonium player with trend-setting and innovative groups such as Neo-Fanfare 9×13, Conflux Trio and the Pynarello Symphony-orchestra. From 2001 onwards he has been playing as a freelance tuba player with symphony orchestras in The Netherlands like Holland Symfonia | Balletorkest Amsterdam, Rotterdam & The Hague Philharmonic Orchestras and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and abroad in the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Besides that he has been chief conductor for many years with three symphony orchestras: The Hague Students Symphony Orchestra ‘Valerius’, The National Project Orchestra and the Bataafs Symphony Orchestra. He went on tour to China, South-Africa, France, Italy and Germany, and performed masterpieces like The Planets (Holst), Pictures of an Exhibition (Mussorgsky) and the Fifth Symphony of Shostakovich.
He studied tuba at the Royal Conservatory (The Hague) with Hendrik-Jan Renes and followed masterclasses with Roger Bobo, Jens Bjørn Larsen and Rex Martin. Playing euphonium he won the soloist price at the Dutch Brassband Festival in 1997 with Brassband Schoonhoven. He is a laureat of the Prinses Christina Concours and the European Tuba-contest (UGDA Luxemburg), where he was invited as a jury-member afterwards. Five years he toured around Europe with the National Youth Orchestra and the World Youth Orchestra.
At the Royal Conservatory he gained his windband-conducting diploma with Alex Schillings, and had lessons ‘orchestral conducting’ with Wim Bredenhorst, José Miguel Esandi, Arie van Beek and Jurjen Hempel. At the Rotterdam Conservatory ‘Codarts’ he studied orchestral conducting with Hans Leenders and was invited twice to conduct the National Youth Orchestra during masterclasses of Mark Wigglesworth and Etienne Siebens.
