Jan Ype Nota began his cello studies with Jyri Prchal in his birthplace Leeuwarden, and studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague where he obtained his performers diploma under Jean Decroos. He continued his studies in London. In The Netherlands he was soloist with various orchestras, including under the directorship of Frans Brüggen. He is also active in various formations as a chamber musician. Jan Ype Nota is a well-known cellist in Friesland, can count many prizewinners among his students, and a performance of his is a major event. He is conductor and artistic leader of the Haydn Youth String Orchestra, reserve leader of the North Netherlands Orchestra and also principal study teacher at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen.
