Jasper Grijpink

Teacher and coordinator Music Theory, Teacher E-flat clarinet (Classical Department)

After starting his conservatoire carreer as a PM-student (studying Political Science in Leiden at first, BA 2008), Jasper Grijpink (1985) studied with Pierre Woudenberg and Ab Vos at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He finished his master in 2012. During this time he took lessons with Eric Hoeprich, and took part in masterclasses by Karl Leister, Martin Fröst, Michael Collins and Béla Kovács.

Jasper was a regular guest player in (a.o.) Het Gelders Orkest, het Residentie Orkest, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Orkest van het Oosten, Asko|Schönberg, RPhO, RFO, etc. As a soloist he performed with various orchestras, amongst which that of the Royal Conservatoire, concertos by Mozart, Finzi, Spohr, Adams, Shaw and Copland. In January 2013 he played the Dutch premiere of Benjamin Britten’s ‘Movements for a clarinet concerto’, which was also the topic of his master research. In April of 2014, Jasper was one of the instrumental soloists in a DNO production of Vivier’s opera Kopernikus.

Since August 2015 Jasper is a member of the Residentie Orkest, playing 2nd and e-flat clarinet.

He is also an active chamber music player. He is a member of Trio Cortado (flute, cor anglais, bass clarinet) with which he recorded ‘Couleur Locale’ – a cd with their own arrangements of repertoire by Ravel, Courperin and Debussy. In addition, Jasper plays saxes and clarinets with The Novelties, a quintet focusing on repertoire from the 1910s and 1920s.
