Sebastiaan Kemner (1990) uses the trombone to convey his musical story and with that he also likes to show the beauty and versatility of his instrument. As a soloist and a chamber musician Sebastiaan often plays on all the main stages of The Netherlands and during tours through Europe, Asia and the US. He is always looking to expand the repertoire and to constitute exciting, boundary crossing programmes.

Collaboration with composers is an important part in the search for new repertoire. New composition are already written for Sebastiaan by amongst others Mike Svoboda, Theo Verbey, Jake Landau and Milika Kishino. Furthermore, he is always in search of forgotten music and arranging existing repertoire. The programmes that emanate from this are surprising and narrative and bring out the lyrical side of the trombone. This approach was also well received by the members of the jury of the Dutch Classical Talent Award, in which Sebastiaan was a finalist in 2016. He also won numerous first prizes on large international competitions, amongst others in New York and Düsseldorf.

Sebastiaan strives to develop himself as thorough and broad as possible, which brings him all across the world to meet all kinds of specialists. He was part of the prestigious Herbert von Karajan Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker, a two year internship with the famous Berlin orchestra, and in 2015 he finished his master studies with the highest distinction at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he studied with Jörgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders and Remko de Jager. In order to explore the academic side of his profession further he started a master studies at the University of Oxford in 2017.

Next to the intensive collaboration with his duo partner, pianist Andrea Vasi, Sebastiaan is a member of musical collective Ludwig and of the New Trombone Collective, which amongst others organises the biennial European Trombone Festival Slide Factory. In 2018 Sebastiaan will also start teaching at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
