Stefan Schmid

Stefan Schmid (München, 1967) plays piano, fender rhodes, keyboards, and computer. He is player, composer and producer. Stefan started playingpiano at the age of 10. After some classical training he fell in love with Jazz at the age of 15. He has followed loads of workshops, and masterclasses, and was taught by teachers in different styles of music. In 1989 he moved to the Netherlands to study Jazz Piano at the Hilversums Conservatorium. His teachers were Frans Elsen and Rob Madna.

He bought his first Atari in 1987 and his first S900 sampler in 1990.

He has played with countless bands and artists. In 1992 he won a prize for best soloist at the Leverkusener Jazztage contest. With the band Martinez Move he won the prize for best band at the Getxo Jazz Festival 1994.

He played Fender Rhodes the first 7 years of the New Cool Colllective. In 1998 he started the project Rec.a together with Lilian Vieira and Stefan Kruger, which soon was to become Zuco 103. They toured around the world. Stefan won a Silveren Harp with the New Cool Collective and an Edison with Zuco 103. In 2003 they were nominated for the BBC World Music Award. He has also toured with Caro Emerald.
