Tom Gelissen

Main subject teacher Art of Sound

Tom Gelissen operates internationally as a sound designer, recording and mix engineer and producer bringing together those separate disciplines across a variety of different musical genres.

After graduating with a degree in technical engineering in 2003, he began studying Art of Sound and classical percussion at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague where he graduated in 2007.

In the period after his studies, Tom was active as a musician in classical music, musicals and studio sessions. Gradually moving to amplification of classical and contemporary music. He has worked with, amongst others, The Residentie Orchestra, Asko Schönberg Ensemble, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Heiner Goebbels, Michel van der Aa, Eliza Miller Dance Company New York City, the Metropole Orchestra and The Heritage Orchestra.

Tom regularly takes care of the sound design and recording for location-specific music-theater productions in unusual locations such as industrial sites, the dunes or a nature park.

As a producer and composer Tom is working on several musical productions, including with Belgian artist Levien, Bad Cirkuz, Ensemble Klang, Crystal Puppets and Whispering Feet.

He also works for film music projects and music-theater. He took care of postproduction of the music for the international releases of the award-winning (Utrecht and Ghent) film El Negro Desiero Gaspar Scheuer (Arg) and Classificados Audiffred Victor (Mex).

Internationally Tom is involved in large-scale cross-over projects for the live mix, recording and post-production. He has collaborated with artists such as Goldie, Anna Calvi, Antony and the Johnsons and The Sparks on festivals such as the London Meltdown Festival, Edinburgh Festival and Roskilde.

As Broadcast engineer Tom is involved in EDM festivals and shows of, amongst others, Ultra Music Festival Miami, State of Trance, David Guetta and Skrillex.

In 2014, he was responsible for the sound design for live performance and recording in the “Vivid Live festival” at the Sydney Opera House for "Giorgi Moroder @ Vivid Live" and he was as mix engineer involved in the award-winning opening shows of the Meydan World Cup and World Airgames Opening Ceremony in 2015.

Since 2011, Tom has been a guest lecturer at the Department of Art of Sound of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
