Our alumni ensemble successfully participated in the 4th International Berlin Bach Competition 2021. Himmelhofkapelle received the second prize for their performance of music by Bach's sons and contemporary composers from Berlin, who lived in the time of the iconic baroque composer. They received 4.000 Euro.

The fourth edition of the international Berlin Bach Competition 2021 took place from September 23th -25th 2021 at the Universität der Künste Berlin in cooperation with the Early Music Society Berlin e.V.. This competition is open to young period instrument ensembles. This year's motto 'Preußische Staatsräson und italienisches Feuer' which translates to Prussian countenance and Italian passion, inspired the young ensembles to explore the galant times of Prussia under Frederick the Great who was in his youth and early adulthood an ambitious musician and composer himself. Frederick was a deep admirer of Johann Sebastian Bach.

About the Ensemble
The members of Himmelhofkapelle have been playing together in various constellations for many years now.
Despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, they have come together to discover the rich repertoire of the Trio Sonata. The musicians play regularly in ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Holland Baroque, Geneva Camerata and ensemble reflektor as well as in chamber music formations such as the award-winning Protean Quartet, Illtupia and I Fiori Selvatici, to name a few.
The young musicians received their training at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Hanns Eisler Schools of Music, as well as the Schola Cantorum Basilensis and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
