XTRO Percussion trio is the winner of the finals of the Grote Kamermuziekprijs 2021, which took place on 13 April at the Doelen in Rotterdam. Members Antonio Bove, Gabriele Segantini and Miguel Varela were awarded both the audience and the jury prize.

De Grote Kamermuziekprijs is the annual competition for chamber music ensembles of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and Codarts Rotterdam. Both students and young alumni are invited to compete.

XTRO is a percussion trio that creates and performs mainly new music and contemporary work, combining theatrical elements and dance. Influenced by artists such as David Lang and Radiohead, the ensemble involves every kind of audience, stimulating imagination in an ethereal reality made of music, visual and dramaturgical art, costumes and concepts. A connection between acoustic and electronic sounds creates an amazing bond rich of colours that with the intervention of lights turns their concerts to an original show.

XTRO’s work as performers, producers and composers has led to collaborations with an impressive range of artists including Slagwerk Den Haag, ASKO/Schonberg, and a new generation composers such as Nicholas Morrish, James Alexandropoulos-McEwan, Germán Medina and Alessandro Soccorsi.

Their latest project ‘Zoom Meeting’, a virtual concert commissioned by Gaudeamus, was released on Youtube on 29 January, 2021. Gabriele, Antonio and Miguel signed for the entire production themselves.
