Alum Myrtó Nizami wins 2026 ISCM Young Composer Award

6 July 2026

Myrtó Nizami, an alum of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, has won the 2026 ISCM Young Composer Award for Gone in No Time (2022), a work for solo cello. The piece was performed by cellist Mircea Marian during the ISCM World New Music Days in Bucharest on 23 May 2026.

The international jury selected Gone in No Time as the outstanding work by a composer under the age of 35, praising its musical coherence, imaginative use of extended techniques and distinctive artistic voice.

The award includes a commission to compose a new work for a future edition of the ISCM World New Music Days.

Inspired by poetry, literature, visual arts, philosophy and politics, Myrtó Nizami explores the expressive possibilities of sound in their music. Gone in No Time was inspired by Samuel Beckett's play That Time and explores themes of memory, repetition and transformation.

Congratulations, Myrtó!
