Calliope Tsoupaki writes new work for Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
24 February 2025
On the occasion of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, Composition teacher Calliope Tsoupaki presents her latest orchestral work, Another Day. The work, specially composed for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, will have its world premiere on 6 March at Het Concertgebouw.
World Premiere and Concert Dates
The world premiere will take place on 6 March at 20:15 at Het Concertgebouw. This will be followed by two additional concerts: on 7 March at 20:15 and on 8 March at 14:15. The final concert will also be broadcast live on NPO Radio 4.
Inspiration and Performance
Calliope composed Another Day in response to a new poignant and image rich poem ‘Elke dag nieuw begon' by the Amsterdam poet Anneke Brassinga. She wrote the poem specially for the occasion which she will recite in person during the concerts. In her composition, Tsoupaki interweaves spooky moments, misty harmonies, haunting melodies and intense walls of sound that evoke feelings of loss, but even more so, the ecstatic desire to embrace life, to be intoxicated by every moment that each day brings.
