Dance Alumnus Marijn Stijl (DJ Maryn) in Volkskrant

Dance Alumnus, dance talent and ghost producer Marijn Stijl (30), better known as DJ Maryn, was recently featured in the Volkskrant newspaper. In the article, he speaks out about ghost-producing in the DJ world. A ghost production is an agreement in which someone, often a well-known artist, pays a (ghost) producer to make or mix a song and then release it under his/her own name. This is usually in the form of a fixed fee.

Maryn entered dance industry via an unusual route. He studied dance at the Royal Conservatoire, learned to play the piano there and started working as a dancer. When preparing for his performances, Maryn invariably indulged in another form of dance: he would play music by DJ’s Tiësto and Armin van Buuren to build up energy and concentration.

He decided to start making electronic dance music himself, eventually giving up dance altogether. With his disciplined work ethic as well as his talent on the piano, he became a highly skilled producer.
