NMO alum Benjamin Wenzelberg presents premiere of Nighttown

10 December 2025

Alum of the National Master in Orchestral Conducting Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg is prominently featured in NRC this month. The article highlights his versatile artistic practice: Wenzelberg is a conductor, composer, pianist and countertenor, and graduated last year from the joint master’s programme of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

In February, he will present the European premiere of his award-winning opera Nighttown at Amare. The production is presented by the Dutch National Opera Academy, in collaboration with musicians from the Classical Music Department of the Royal Conservatoire. For Wenzelberg, the premiere marks a meaningful return to The Hague.

With Nighttown, audiences in The Hague will have a special opportunity to experience Wenzelberg’s work as a composer up close. The collaboration between the Dutch National Opera Academy and the Royal Conservatoire also demonstrates how students and alumni contribute to innovative music theatre.
