Art of Sound student Mick van Broekhoven has been awarded the Zilveren Krekel together with DÉMIRA for the music design of the performance Kind of Human, directed by Abdel Daoudi and produced by Theater Oostpool. According to the jury report, the sound design by DÉMIRA and Mick van Broekhoven “plays an indispensable role in the disorienting atmosphere of the production.”
The award was presented in the category ‘most impressive stage performance’. “The soundscape has an unpredictable dynamic, comes from every corner of the theatre trailer, and in its eclectic form at times even seems to have been composed by AI. In doing so, DÉMIRA and Van Broekhoven take you exactly where Kind of Human wants you to be: so manipulated by technology that you no longer know what’s up or down,” the jury noted.
The Zilveren Krekel is awarded annually to the most impressive youth theatre productions and performances. The award ceremony will take place on 14 September 2025 during the Gala of Dutch Theatre.
