Calefax with Classical Music students

Sticker-KC-200

In this project, students from the Classical Music Department perform alongside the renowned reed quintet Calefax, Ensemble in Residence at the Royal Conservatoire. In addition, two reed quintets from the conservatoire will be contributing to the program. On 12 February, this will be the Peeva Reed Quintet, and on 13 February, the Aeolia Reed Quintet.

Calefax – a close-knit group of five reed players – are pioneers of the reed quintet genre. Known for their own arrangements and new commissions, their repertoire features oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon, with influences from world music, jazz and improvisation.

This project gives students the opportunity to learn directly from professional musicians, gaining insights into ensemble playing, interpretation and stagecraft. A concert full of craftsmanship, energy and creative exchange.
