THE HOUSE OF VENUS
A Vocal Department production in collaboration with the Early Music and Jazz Departments
Step inside The House of Venus a glittering casino where fortune favours the bold, and love always plays for keeps. In this daring new adaptation of John Blow’s Venus and Adonis, gods and mortals gamble for more than money - they play for their hearts.
Venus is the charismatic casino owner, Adonis the high-stakes gambler who catches her eye, and the Cupids her razor-sharp personal assistants balancing business, mischief, and matchmaking. The infamous “hunt” becomes a dangerous game played at the tables of desire.
Club 4 will be transformed into a casino lounge, and the bar will be open from one hour before each performance. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary drink and invited to dress in black tie to join the festivities.
Tickets: Free admission (limited seating). Voluntary donations are warmly encouraged to support the costuming and set design for L’enfant et les sortilèges, the Vocal Department Opera Project in March 2027.
