The Royal Conservatoire The Hague presents Pastorale, a symphonic programme exploring nature, lyricism and orchestral colour through works by Richard Wagner, Alban Berg and Johannes Brahms. Conducted by Jac van Steen, the programme brings together late-Romantic warmth and early modern expression in a rich and atmospheric orchestral journey.
The concert opens with Waldweben (‘Forest Murmurs’) from Wagner's Siegfried, presented in a version by Zumpe, evoking the magical sounds and textures of the forest. This is followed by Theo Verbeij's orchestration of Berg's Piano Sonata, Op. 1, transforming the intimate piano work into a vibrant orchestral landscape. The programme concludes with Brahms' radiant and pastoral Symphony No. 2, Op. 73, celebrated for its warmth, lyrical beauty and expansive symphonic writing.
