Collaborative Music Creation at Rewire Festival

30 March 2026

Participants from the course Collaborative Music Creation will stage and perform a new and collaboratively produced piece, opening the context programme of the internationally renowned Rewire Festival at West Den Haag.

Collaborative Music Creation is a practical course at The Royal Conservatoire, designed for students from every department who want to further develop and refine their creative skills. The main focus is on music creation through collaborative forms of music-making, without making a distinction between improvisation and other methods of composition. The course represents a crossroads between KC’s departments, so as to make full use of the fertile ground formed by its various approaches to musical thinking, invention, and play.

Their piece CHORDIAL combines forms of improvisation with composed elements: superimposed layers of sound mark transitions between unfolding melodic structures. The occurrence in time of these transitions, as well as the contrapuntal dialogue with the melodic lines, are determined by the improvised interaction of the performers.

CHORDIAL will be performed on Thursday 9 April at 14:00 at West, The Hague and is free to attend.
