In memoriam: Pierre Audi (1957–2025)

6 May 2025

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Pierre Audi. Pierre Audi was a visionary and an artistic leader of exceptional stature. His tireless dedication to the arts and his ability to bring grand ambitions to life were of immeasurable value – also to our Royal Conservatoire.

Pierre Audi played a pivotal role in the realisation of aus LICHT, the monumental performance of Stockhausen’s work that took place in 2019. Audi’s involvement was vital: his strategic insight, belief in emerging artists and artistic courage shaped a unique collaborative project in which talent, education and top-level art came together. As the first-ever staging of such a large part of the LICHT cycle (over half of the full opera cycle), the unique nature and scale of this project make it a truly world-class operatic and musical theatre production. This production was made possible in part by a specially established Master’s programme at the Royal Conservatoire, in which students were intensively mentored – including by Stockhausen’s widows.

We are deeply grateful to Pierre Audi for his trust, his inspiration and his legacy. His impact on the Dutch and international arts world is lasting. We honour his vision with deep admiration.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who worked with him.
