The 200th anniversary of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague will be celebrated in grand style on Wednesday 8 April, in the presence of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Máxima. During an evening-length programme at the Danstheater in Amare, everything that characterises the oldest conservatoire in the Netherlands will take centre stage: craftsmanship, artistic excellence and a continuous drive for innovation. All departments and disciplines are represented; hundreds of students will present a wide range of performances together.
Music & Dance
From baroque music and sonology to contemporary dance, jazz and opera. During Jubilee Night, the Royal Conservatoire places its talented students in the spotlight. Interdisciplinary collaborations ensure surprising performances, alternating between large ensembles and intimate moments. At one point, ninety dancers will fill the stage; at another, sixteen voices will resonate a cappella. Twenty wind players will engage in a musical dialogue while performing, and Louis Andriessen is of course also featured in the programme. This is just a selection from a line-up under the artistic direction of director Sjaron Minailo and choreographers Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana.
Royal visit
‘We are extremely proud to celebrate this anniversary, 200 years after our founding by King William I, in the presence of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima,’ says director Lies Colman. ‘The history of the Royal Conservatoire is closely interwoven with the House of Orange-Nassau. Marking this milestone in royal company makes it especially meaningful. Their presence underlines not only the importance of our institution, but also of art and culture as a beating heart of connection in our society. At the Royal Conservatoire, we have educated composers, musicians, singers and dancers for generations, who go on to excel around the world. On 8 April, these stars will shine in The Hague – and we look forward to sharing an unforgettable evening with all our visitors, including the Royal Couple.’
