Meet Peter Moutoussis

Peter graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, London with a Bachelor of Early Music and is telling us why he chose to participate in the Ton Koopman Academy.

''The Ton Koopman Academy boasts a remarkable group of students and world-renowned professionals that come together to explore the best of baroque chamber music in an idyllic setting. The welcoming atmosphere cateres for a multinational group at the beginning of their career questioning and developing the performance of music from the enlightenment.

As a London based horn masters student currently enrolled at the Royal College of Music, this was a valuable opportunity to connect with the musicians at Royal Conservatoire of Hague. Horn professor Teunis van der Zwart provided no end of musical, practical and academic insights, his lessons seamlessly combining musical expression with technique and research. I felt extremely fortunate prepairing the most significant of eighteenth century horn repertoire under his guidance.

The opportunity to perform alongside and observe fellow student's rehearsals and lessons was invaluable. Kate Clark's flute lessons provided refreshing new perspectives on wind playing and Ton Koopman's direction was particularly inspiring.

Ton was instrumental in fostering a friendly and transparent atmosphere of cross-discipline integration. Round table discussions amongst students and teachers were a fascinating insight into the future of the period instrument world, inspiring a sense of both awe at recent accomplishments and ambitious eagerness for what's to come. A refreshing experimental approach in performance fosteres a prestigious standard and celebrates the joys of the artistic freedom in the historical performance movement.''
