Recent Studies in Artistic Research

21 February 2023

Kathryn Cok, Head of Master Research was invited by Early Music America to give a webinar on Saturday, 18 February to discuss current curricular trends and performative developments in the field of artistic research. She also highlighted several of her own personal research projects and presented the work of three North American alumni: Jacob Gramit (’18), Christina Kwon (’20), and Shanti Nachtergaele (’15).

Her position as Head of Master Research at the Royal Conservatoire since 2011 as well as a harpsichordist, fortepianist and active artistic researcher has allowed Kathryn to witness first-hand the exciting development of artistic research as a source of inspiration and discovery for young as well as established performers. In addition to helping students develop their own artistic identity, the focus on artistic research provides them with important skill sets which enable them to be successful in the ever-challenging world of historical performance and beyond.

Kathryn was joined for this webinar by second-year student Jeremy Bass, a classical guitarist from Virginia finishing a Master's at the conservatoire in lute and theorbo.
