Suzan Overmeer has been appointed as our new Head of Music Education. She succeeds Margi Kirschenmann as head of the department as of 1 September.
Suzan on her new position: 'Music education offers many opportunities for musicians with a heart for people and society. I find it an honour to guide students towards their own place in this inspiring field of work.'
Suzan Overmeer has been study leader of the Music in Education programme at the Royal Conservatoire since 2016 with great pleasure and enthusiasm. She is also a lecturer, research supervisor and Master Circle Leader. Within the Music, Education and Society lectorate, she conducts research into the collaboration between the Music in Education programme and music education partners on Aruba and Curaçao.
Suzan studied Musicology in Utrecht and worked as a music teacher and music consultant in primary education. With her foundation Jazz4kids, she performed for years as a singer at school concerts and developed the method Jazz in de klas (2008). In recent years, she was music editor of the national professional magazine Kunstzone.
Besides her work at the Royal Conservatoire, she writes children's books about music. Her most recent book, Een bos vol muziek (third edition 2024), has been translated into English, Indonesian and Turkish.
