18 August 2022

On Wednesday 17 August, the documentary LICHT was again broadcast on NPO 2. Watch the documentary now via NPO Start.

In 2019 a marathon performance was staged of a large portion of the LICHT cycle, composed by Karlheinz Stockhausen. Featuring selected highlights from the seven operas – one for each day of the week – it offered a spectacular overview of Stockhausen's masterpiece. From the whole work's 29 hours of music, the production will comprise 15 hours performed over three days, capturing the whole tonal universe of the original cycle. The unique nature and scale of this project made it a truly world-class operatic and musical theatre production. aus LICHT was a joint production of Holland Festival, Dutch National Opera, Royal Conservatoire The Hague and Stockhausen Foundation for Music.

A large part of the musicians consisted of students from the Royal Conservatoire, a number of whom followed a special master's course around aus LICHT and fully immersed themselves in Stockhausen's music for two years. In the documentary LICHT you follow the preparations for the project. Watch the documentary now via NPO Start.
