The effect of time on mental health

20 March 2026

Susanna Bloem is both a researcher and a composer, working at Utrecht University, the UMC Utrecht, and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She draws on this unique combination to explore one of the most overlooked questions in psychiatry: why does time play such a crucial role in mental health? And how can music help us understand this?

This week, she is sharing her work with a wider audience through a podcast and a piece about her public talk at Carré, right in the middle of the upcoming 'Week of Psychiatry' (23–29 March). Watch the teaser here. The podcast includes Jim van Os and Calliope Tsoupaki.
