Trombone student Thijn Mariman has won the audition for the position of trombonist with the Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine, marking an important milestone in his musical career.
Thijn began playing the trombone at the age of eight with Helmonds Muziek Corps. After completing the organisation’s talent programme, he graduated with distinction from the HaFaBra trombone examinations (levels A–D). He then spent a year in the Young Musicians Academy at the Conservatorium Tilburg. Since 2023, he has been studying Classical Music at Royal Conservatoire The Hague, specialising in trombone, where he continues to develop as a professional musician.
Alongside his studies, Thijn has gained extensive orchestral experience. He has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (JeugdOrkestNederland), the Young Trombone Collective and a range of other projects. He has also worked as an extra player with several professional orchestras, including the Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the North Netherlands Orchestra.
Winning the audition is a wonderful recognition of Thijn’s years of dedication, musical development and commitment to his instrument. Royal Conservatoire congratulates Thijn on this outstanding achievement.
