Benoît Vanden Bemden is a highly sought-after double bass and violone player, active in both chamber and orchestral music.
He is a founding member and artistic coordinator of the Brussels-based baroque orchestra Les Muffatti and is also a member of Ensemble Masques. He regularly collaborates with ensembles such as Ricercar Consort, Vox Luminis, Le Caravansérail, Capriccio Stravagante, Inalto, Castello Consort, Bach Collegium Japan, Stradivaria, Il Gardellino, La Rêveuse, Les Voix Humaines, Scherzi Musicali and A Nocte Temporis.
After completing his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels with Christian Vanderborght, Benoît Vanden Bemden soon focused on early music and historically informed performance practice. In 2002 he obtained a Diplôme Supérieur in chamber music, with distinction, from the Conservatoire royal de Mons, studying with Guy Van Waas. He completed his Master of Music degree in violone the following year with Maggie Urquhart at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
