Marijn studied at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, where he began as a tenor trombonist but later transitioned to bass and contrabass trombone. He trained with renowned trombonists such as Ben van Dijk, Brandt Attema, Jörgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders, Remko de Jager, and Bart van Lier. In 2016, he completed his studies with the highest distinction.
Marijn's talent as a soloist was recognised when he won the Donald Yaxley Bass Trombone Competition in 2015. He also won the ITA Quartet Competition in 2014 and the Emory Remington Competition in 2013.
In 2018, Marijn was appointed bass trombonist of the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen. Since 2019, he has held the same position with Het Balletorkest in Amsterdam. Additionally, he is active as a freelancer with all major symphony orchestras in the Netherlands. In the field of chamber music, Marijn is a member of the Bruckner Quartet and performs with various ensembles such as the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Asko|Schönberg, and Pynarello.
From September 2025, Marijn Migchielsen will join the Royal Conservatoire as a bass trombone lecturer.
